Director of Programs at ELMA Philanthropies

Driven by the core belief that health care workers are the irreplaceable backbone of the health system, Melissa Morrison leads the Health Workforce portfolio as a Director of Programs at ELMA Philanthropies, the services arm of The ELMA Group of Foundations. At ELMA, Melissa develops and leads program strategies, identifies and connects change-makers to capital, and builds philanthropic relationships to advocate for increased coordinated investment to transform maternal, newborn, and child health across Africa. Melissa is a nurse and senior technical advisor with 17 years of experience in global public health. Before joining ELMA, she lived and practiced clinical nursing in South Sudan, Sudan, Kenya, Tanzania, and Haiti giving her a deep appreciation for the challenges facing frontline health workers in resource-constrained settings. Melissa holds a MPH in Global Health Leadership and a MSc in Nursing Education from New York University. She is currently a DrPH candidate at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine with a focus on understanding the levers of impact of the health workforce.
